On March 17, the Norwegian Consulate in Brazil and the NBCC – Norwegian Brazilian Chamber of Commerce hosted the seminar “New Double Taxation Agreement between Brazil and Norway”, bringing together experts to discuss the impacts of this new regulation on trade and investments between the two countries.

With 183 participants, the event addressed how the elimination of double taxation will make the Brazilian market more attractive to Norwegian investors, as well as facilitate business operations and reduce tax costs.

Key topics discussed included changes in the taxation of dividends, interest, royalties, and technical services, as well as the application of the Mutual Agreement Procedure (MAP) to prevent tax disputes. The event also provided insights into specific rules for offshore activities, permanent establishments, and methods for eliminating double taxation.

The seminar featured experts such as João Paulo Martins da Silva, from the Brazilian Federal Revenue Service; Øystein Lysne, from the Norwegian Tax Authority; Tiago Severini, from Vieira Rezende Advogados; and Alessandra Okuma, from Okuma Advogados. The panel was moderated by Gabriela Rocha, from Hoegh Evi.

This initiative reinforced the importance of cooperation between Brazil and Norway, fostering a more favorable environment for business and investments between the two nations.
