The initiative confirms the business objectives of the Norwegian renewable energy company, and the company’s efforts will focus especially on the action platform for climate and sustainable energy.

The Pact aims to mobilize the business community to adopt its business practices and fundamental values, and is made up of ten principles in the areas of human rights, labor relations, the environment and the fight against corruption. The actions aim to create a better world.

With the purpose of providing clean energy, through renewable sources and an altruistic vision of building a greener world, with respect to people and the environment, the UN Global Compact proposal corroborates with the business objectives of the state-owned subsidiary Norwegian in Brazil.

According to Cristiane Silva, Sustainability manager at Statkraft in Brazil, joining  Global Compact takes place at a strategic moment for the company. The specialist says that the company’s decision to participate in the initiative considered the activities planned by the Sustainability area in 2020, such as the implementation of ISO 26000 – International Standards in Social Responsibility and Due Diligence in Human Rights, topics directly related to the performance of the Pact Global.

 

“Our entry is in line with the principles already adopted by the head office in Norway, in the Sustainability Policy, as well as in the growth and structuring of the area in Brazil”, she says.

 

With the insertion of Statkraft in the Global Compact, the company sees a gain in aligning its strategies and operations with the largest corporate sustainability initiative known in the world.

 

Wind
Statkraft sees great growth potential in Brazil. The company’s strategy is to have flexible renewable generation portfolios, through the development of its projects and via selective acquisitions in priority markets.

 

“We aim to triple or quadruple our installed capacity for renewable energy in Brazil by 2025, which currently stands at 450 megawatts. The wind generation is the protagonist of our strategic planning. In the coming years, the new wind complexes in Bahia are expected to add 1 gigawatt (GW) of energy, today 50% of the capacity has already been sold in the regulated market ”, says the CEO of Statkraft in Brazil, Fernando De Lapuerta.

 

The company’s ambition is to grow robustly to acquire and optimize assets in operation, in order to increase its power generation capacity in the three sources, hydroelectric, wind and solar.
