Seminar Noruega-Ceará: Opportunities and Challenges

On the occasion of the visit of The Sørlandet sailing boat to the city of Fortaleza, a seminar was organized by Innovation Norway, the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Brazil, The Honorary Consulate of Norway in Fortaleza and the Norwegian Seafood Council, in cooperation with The Federation of Industries of Ceará State (FIEC). The seminar took place on the 22nd of February at the headquarters of FIEC.

The main focus of the seminar was aquaculture and seafood. Sigurd Rydland, board member of the NCE Aquaculture talked about the Norwegian fish farming experience. While the Brazilian perspective included presentations from Aquabras and Embrapa. FUNCAP presented the Innovation Policies and Support possibilities from the State of Ceará, while PISCIS was invited as an example of entrepreneurship and innovative company in the Brazilian market for fish farming.

Mr. Ricardo Lyncoln Barreira – Coordinator for Fisheries and Aquaculture of the Federal Superintendence of Agribusiness of Ceará – was representing MAPA during the plenary opening. When Mr. Jan Dybfest, Chargé d’Affaires of Royal Norwegian Embassy in Brazil, stated that: “We would like to expand our relations including Ceará in the best way“.

The seminar had an audience of over 100 participants including representatives of institutions and relevant actors of the Brazilian business community from Ceará. The program was very comprehensive and gave great insights in the respective segments.

“The State of Ceará has many similarities with Norway, among them a long tradition of maritime navigation, and export and production of fish. It is the beginning of a fruitful relationship between Norway and this Brazilian state” – says Mrs Aud Marit Wiig, Norwegian Ambassador to Brazil.
