According to Aker Solutions, the “Skandi Santos” is a state of the art Subsea Equipment Support Vessels (SESV), and by utilizing the vessel, each tree installation takes six days less than a conventional drilling rig would need. The “Skandi Santos” is specially designed and equipped for deepwater subsea equipment installation, intervention or recovery. It represents a first class field construction platform for deep and ultra-deep waters, Aker Solutions informs on the company website.
In March 2014, the vessel will celebrate its fourth year in operation, and during the current contract period, almost 600 different operations have been executed by the highly specialized vessel, all of which were concluded without any kind of incident.
“With this reward, Petrobras shows recognition for the extraordinary performance of the “Skandi Santos”, a result of the application of pioneering engineering developed for this vessel´s unique characteristics, associated with our focus on HSE, commitment, teamwork and competence of onshore and offshore teams”, Luiz Ranieri Bazzo, general manager of Aker Oilfield Services says in a press release dated March 6, 2014.
To Luis Araújo, the president of Aker Solutions do Brasil, the award is a great achievement.
“To get an award like this from such an important and demanding client like Petrobras is indeed a great achievement, and it makes all of those who contributed, very proud. We hope to expand our partnership with Petrobras in new projects like this, and apply all the experience and knowledge acquired in the “Skandi Santos” project – a proven, safe, economical and effective option for conducting subsea completion operations”, Araújo says.
The “Skandi Santos” is 121 meters long, and is equipped with a Class 3 dynamic positioning system, making it a secure and flexible working platform with a large operational window for subsea intervention, installation and construction work in rough weather and sea conditions around the world. The vessel is environmental friendly with focus on low fuel consumption, low exhaust emissions, and has precautions in accordance with DNV’s Clean Design requirements incorporated into the vessel design.
“Skandi Santos” has one heave compensated crane of 250 mt capacity, a skidding system with pallet capacities of 125 mt in the moonpool area and 50 mt outside, which enables safe and reliable equipment handling in rough weather conditions.
