Initiative will support institutions in different states of the country and aims at helping the population during the pandemic

Covid-19’s progress in Brazil has intensified. To help fight the health crisis that has quickly been established in the country, Statkraft Brasil will make donations to institutions in the states of Santa Catarina (where the company’s headquarters are located), Rio de Janeiro (where the Energy Commercialization office is located), Bahia and Espírito Santo, where they have assets.

According to Statkraft’s CEO in Brazil, Fernando De Lapuerta, the actions will corroborate with the confrontation of the crisis.

“As a socially responsible company, we highly value ethics and respect for people and the environment. Our business vision prioritizes sustainability in all aspects. We believe that providing pure energy goes beyond generation with the use of renewable sources; it is a process of responsibility and commitment that runs through the entire DNA of the company, so we couldn’t help but to contribute. We know that, at this moment, no matter how small, support can save lives”.
With a focus on the well-being of people affected by the virus and their families, Statkraft will donate to the Unified Health System (SUS) the necessary amount to produce 4,000 molecular and rapid tests for the detection of coronavirus, which will be manufactured by Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz). The action is part of the #energiapracuidar movement that has the participation of other players in the electricity sector.

The company will also make contributions in states where it has assets. “The company is directing its own resources to assist institutions that work to combat the coronavirus. In addition, it continues to provide support to those that were already partners in other projects and, currently, are also mobilized in the fight against the pandemic”, reports the Sustainability manager at Statkraft in Brazil, Cristiane Silva.

Among the projects contemplated, the participation in the ‘Tá Limpo!’ Campaign, developed by Central Única das Favelas – Cufa, stands out. Statkraft will donate 6 thousand hygiene kits (with bleach and detergent) to the project, which will be delivered to residents of Alegre, Castelo, Conceição do Castelo and Santa Leopoldina in Espírito Santo.

In Rio de Janeiro, the company will donate to the Universidade Federal Fluminense (UFF) three nobreaks, four 3D printers and an injection mold for the production of faceshields (facial protection shields). The devices, already certified by Anvisa, will be destined for professionals in hospitals, UPAs and the Fire Department of the state.

Through the internal Solidarity Challenge and Together programs at Statkraft, the company will provide 500 masks for free to the needy population of Santa Catarina. When carrying out physical exercises, yoga classes and mindfulness practices (all at home), employees accumulate kilometers that can be used in humanitarian aid. For every 2 km, a mask is donated. The projects aims at promoting the spirit of volunteering and strengthening human development, in addition to encouraging the practice of physical activity and health promotion.

Still in the south of the country, Statkraft will donate materials for the construction of pulmonary ventilators to the Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC).
